I had full intentions of writing something last week. By those standards this entry is late.
But looking back on it, the timing is actually perfect.
To say I was out of sorts last week would be an understatement. I did everything possible to procrastinate my to do list, including binge watching SIX SEASONS of Younger which landed me a visit to my chiropractor. Turns out if you literally sit on your ass for a week you will suffer a sever muscle spasm. Don't worry, the irony of the whole thing is not lost on me here.
But being that I'm an over-achiever who likes to check things off a list I didn't let that spasm get me down. I finished all six seasons in one week.
Like 7 days.
Then I went down a shame spiral about the whole thing. You know the one - first you feel bad about bingeing, then you equate it to the fact that you obviously have no goals in life and you need to make big life changes immediately because you're not getting any younger and what have you really accomplished?
Where's my Type A's at?
Once we slip down the rabbit hole, it can be difficult to remember how to get out. Luckily I have great people in my life who provide a heavy dose of reality when I get like this. My sister suggested I try forest bathing. (Don't worry - you don't actually have to get naked. I asked.) She said I needed to just 'get outside'. Turns out it wasn't bad advice.
To be honest, I think I've been focused on work and business for so long that I just forgot how to have other interests and hobbies. I don't know what to do with my spare time. So I'm in the process of figuring it out. I'm trying new things and getting back to old loves (like the love of reading not old flames).
While I don't feel fantastic about bingeing a TV show all week, the truth is I obviously needed that down time or I wouldn't have taken it. We need to rest as much as we need activities, goals and interests. It's essential to our well being.
So rather than this being a cautionary tale of the dangers of binge watching TV, I'm just accepting that it was the exact right thing I needed at that moment.
And as for Younger, if you haven't watched it yet, I HIGHLY recommend you do. (Although I would suggest you pace yourself just to avoid the trip to the chiropractor).
let me slide into your dm's.
